Capturing the positive impact we have on the economy, communities, and environment

Social Value

At CWR the work we do goes beyond delivering waste, recycling and fleet services. As a Council-owned company, we are committed to ensuring our services create wider benefits for the borough - supporting local people, strengthening the economy and contributing to a more sustainable environment.

This approach is embedded in how we operate day to day. We create stable, long-term employment opportunities for local people and invest in developing skills across the workforce, helping colleagues build lasting careers within the organisation. Alongside this, we work closely with partners to provide pathways into employment for those who may otherwise face barriers, including young people, care leavers and members of the Armed Forces community.

We also play an important role in supporting the local economy. By prioritising work with small and medium-sized businesses and local suppliers, we help to retain economic value within the borough, championing local jobs and strengthening supply chains. This ensures the investment associated with our services continues to benefit the communities we serve.

Through the way we deliver our operations, we contribute directly to environmental outcomes. By increasing recycling, reducing waste and improving the quality of materials we handle, we support the borough’s wider sustainability and climate ambitions. This is reinforced through the use of data and insight, enabling us to continuously improve performance and maximise the value of the resources we manage.

To understand and measure the impact of this work, we use the Thrive Framework, which allows us to quantify the social and environmental value created through our activities. This provides a clear picture of how our services contribute not only to operational performance, but to wider outcomes across the borough.

By bringing together reliable service delivery, local employment, strong partnerships and environmental responsibility, we ensure that the work we do every single day creates meaningful and lasting value.
