Cheshire West Recycling (CWR) delivers essential waste, recycling and fleet maintenance services on behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Council. As a Council-owned company, we provide safe, reliable and efficient services that benefit residents, protect the environment and deliver value for money.

At the heart of our operations is our people, whose work keeps essential services running smoothly every day. We employ more than 300 people across ten sites, supporting households and communities across the borough.

The work we do goes beyond service delivery. Through local employment, skills development and working with local suppliers, we create wider benefits for the borough, supporting the local economy and contributing to more sustainable communities.

Supporting households every week

Our kerbside collection service supports more than 170,000 households across the borough, delivering recycling, refuse, food and garden waste collections every week. With over 440,000 collections carried out each week – and more than 24 million per year – we provide a consistent and reliable service that residents can depend on.

We are proud of our 99.9% first time collection rate, with our crews operating right across the borough and ensuring our services run smoothly and safely every day.

Helping residents to dispose responsibly

CWR manages Cheshire West and Chester's Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), providing accessible, well-managed sites where residents can recycle more and dispose of a wide range of household waste safely and responsibly.

With around 740,000 visits each year, these sites play a key role in increasing recycling rates, supporting reuse and reducing waste in the borough. Site teams support residents in using the facilities effectively, ensuring materials are sorted correctly and that as much waste as possible is recovered and recycled.

Keeping the Council and community moving

Our Fleet Services team maintains our own operational vehicles alongside a wide range of Council vehicles, supporting essential, reliable community services across the borough.

From vans to accessible buses, gritters, snowploughs, tractors, trailers and mechanical sweepers, our workshops help to ensure Council vehicles are maintained to a consistently high standard, keeping them on the road and meeting the needs of residents.

Supporting schools and other organisations

CWR provides waste and recycling collections for Council-owned Brio Leisure sites, alongside food waste collections for schools and Council buildings across the borough.

Built around existing collection rounds, the service provides a practical and efficient way for organisations to manage waste responsibly, meet legislative requirements and support wider environmental goals.
