CWR Food Waste Collection for Schools

School canteen with food waste

From 31st March 2025, schools will be required to separate food waste from other waste streams under the government’s new Simpler Recycling legislation. Cheshire West Recycling (CWR) offers a cost-effective, efficient and trusted food waste collection service that is tailored to schools in the borough.

Why Choose CWR?

As a council-owned company, we understand the financial pressures schools face. Unlike commercial providers that may introduce additional fees, we offer a transparent, all-inclusive ‘per lift’ service with no hidden costs or surcharges. Our service is designed to work alongside the borough’s existing food waste collection rounds, making the process straightforward and efficient.

About our Food Waste Service

* Integrated collections – We collect food waste alongside household collections to help keep costs as low as possible for schools, whilst reducing unnecessary transport and emissions.

* Support with setup – We minimise the administrative burden of this legislation change; we manage all operational and regulatory requirements, including Duty of Care and container provision.

* Tailored guidance – Our trusted framework helps schools to estimate their collection needs based on pupil roll number and school type; and our team is on-hand to provide bespoke guidance when needed.

*  Sustainable outcomes – Our collection process converts food waste into renewable energy and reduces the impact on the environment.

With schools across England producing over 80,000 tonnes of food waste annually, your school can play a part in tackling waste, promoting sustainability, and setting an example for students.

Supporting Schools and Pupils

Beyond collection services, CWR is committed to working with schools to enhance environmental education and move up the Waste Heirarchy. Our Engagement Team is on hand to work with schools to deliver classroom resources, assemblies and eco challenges to help pupils understand the benefits of recycling and develop lifelong sustainable habits.

By partnering with us, schools will not only meet legislative requirements but also help inspire the next generation to make a positive impact on their communities and the environment.
