On Thursday 1st May, CWR was honoured with the Health & Safety Award at the 2025 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management by letsrecycle.com at the Grosvenor Hotel, London.
The award recognises both our “Rolling Away from Risk” initiative and the rollout of defibrillators across our entire frontline fleet, together marking a significant step forward in how we approach safety across our operations.
For many years, it has been common practice for drivers of waste collection vehicles to support their loaders in completing collections. This is particularly prevalent during alleyway, communal and cul-de-sac collections, where drivers often leave their vehicles running and unmanned. While long viewed as a means of boosting efficiency, this practice carries significant safety risks.
CWR took the decision to deviate from industry standard, introducing a new code of practice that requires drivers to remain in their cabs at all times. This mandate has improved vehicle control, enabled enhanced crew supervision with drivers monitoring crews and equipment from inside vehicles, and eliminated a major operational risk without compromising on performance or quality of service.
Alongside this, CWR equipped all 61 frontline vehicles with fully automated defibrillators, making life-saving equipment readily available to the communities we serve.
CWR was delighted to receive the award, which reflects the dedication and care shown by our entire team. We are proud to be leading the way in delivering safer, more responsible waste services.
